Matthieu Pritchett named SEC TRACK RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Former Enka Candler standout, Matthieu Pritchett (Tennessee) won the 60 with a time of 6.85 at the Virginia Tech Invitational in Blacksburg, Va., Saturday. On Friday, he finished second in the prelims and semifinals to teammate Rubin Williams.
In the prelims, Pritchett ran a season-best time, covering the 60 meters in 6.81. In the semifinals, he set another season-best, clocking in at 6.80 to qualify for the finals. 2/22/06

Pritchett looking for a bright featrue

When Matthieu Pritchett got to Knoxville in the fall 2004, he relized quickly he wasn't the fastest sprinter no more. "In the SEC everyone was either a State Champion or All-American in high school" - said Pritchett. Pritchett has overcome early injurys in his college career, to battle back on what he hopes to be a good season at Tennessee this spring.

Here’s what we got so far, the full results aren't in at the moment. This was the last meet to qualify for state, wnc coaches will rush to enter times in by Midnight EST. Monday Jan 30, Josh Morgan records 2:32 in the 1000, unofficially the #2 time ran in country this year. Michael Walker zooms to 9:52 in the 3200 meter run. TCR senior Cord Collins records 6.40 in the 55 meters, just .01 off the wnc leader.

Clemson Invitational - 1/28/06

Roberson breaks its school record outdoor time, indoors in the 4X800M relay with a 8:03.41 FAT, unofficially the 9th fastest time record this season in the US. Also unofficially 2nd fastest time record on a flat track this season in the US, according to Jim Spier list. Josh Morgan splits 1:56.54 on the anchor. Carolina Kirby 5:37.46 FAT. TCR freshman Shanno Fiorentino 9.61 in 55HH, smashes heat 6. TCR girls win 4X800 in 10:48.27 FAT. Josh Dubin 4:43.30 FAT, TCR boys 4X400 3:33.43 FAT. Polk County's Mike O'Steen vaults 13-6. Roberson Sweeps 1st WNC Polar Bear Championships

At the first indoor track & field championship in wnc history, Hannah McArdle leads the Roberson girl’s team to victory. Roberson boys also win behind 8:10.2 4x800M (Jason Morgan, Josh Pickett, Michael Walker, Josh Morgan) and the sprinting of Jeremiah Kilgore and David Pickett. Cade Liverman is now at Texas A&M

 
TEXAS - The collegiate track and field career for Cade Liverman didn't go like he expected in 05' at Tennessee, in case you don't know Liverman is now back in his home state of Texas, under coach Vince Anderson. Anderson recruited Liverman in 04' to run hurdles for him at UT, but Anderson made a unexpected coaching change to Texas A&M, now Liverman joins him in College Station, hoping for a breakout season.

Eastern Challenge

At the Eastern HS Challenge on January 21st, Christain Phiel Asheville vaults 9 feet, also goes 9.9 (55 hurdles), and 44.86 in the 300 meters. Michael Robinson AC Reynolds clears 6 feet in the high jump.

January 18th- Here’s what we got so far, the full results aren't in at the moment. Consider it was under 50 degrees in Columbus, times and marks were solid. Sean Reardon NB sub 7.9 55HH, David Pickett TCR sub 6.5 (6.47) 55M, freshman Madison McGlohon TCR 7.5 55M, Bridgett Hills TCR junior 5-0 HJ, Hannah McArdle TCR 1:24 500 Run, Jeremiah Kilgore TCR 37.0 300M.

Where are Western North Carolina's former track & field prep stars competing at in college? We will keep update on past wnc high school track/xc competing on the collegiate level, each week through the indoor and outdoor season.

Snyder’s 2005 season she saw the awards podium numerous time, as she won the 3-A state title in the 800 meters. All though Synder want dwell on the past sucess, she just want's to keep building on her running at the college level. The former Enka star is now at Charlotte finding great running time on the XC circuit, as well the track.

Jackson was one of the best athletes of the 2003 season as he recorded 21.62 in the 200 meters, to win the 3-A state title. After high school Jackson didn’t have the opportunity to take his talents to the collegiate level, due to his academics. Now he’s back after 3 years for redemption, Jackson is confident he will have a promising feature ahead under St Aug coach George Williams.

Asics Invitational

Polk County remains ahead of the WNC track teams, competing in four indoor/oudoor meets so far. There last meet was in Virginia at the Asics Invitational on January 13th-14th. Polk County boys 4X800 meter relay team shaves 10secs off there time. Elliott, O'steen, Williams, and Halford lead the Wolverines.

Polk County #2

At the Polk County #2 Jan 11th, weather is good in Columbus, N.C., for the first Polk County 1 of 3 meets. The meet was highlight by Mcdowell's senior distance/cross country star Isaiah Shirlen 9:57! in the 3200 meter run. Polk County's Elisabeth Elliott sophomore sensation, and 2-time defending state champion in XC, nearly goes Sub 12.00 in the 3200 meters. Buncombe County track power-house T.C. Roberson, couldn't attend do to final exams.

\Who's hot early in NC?
Gabby Mayo and Karjuan Williams are gaining nationally attention. Also a look at the 55-meters.
Gabby Mayo a junior at Southeast Raleigh won the 55m dash in 6.92 at the Hispanic Games in New York on January 7th. It is the second fastest time in the US this season. She also won the 200m at this meet in 24.22. It is the fastest time in the US this season. Mayo was MVP of the North Carolina 4A state meet last year, running the 100H, 300H, and two relays.

Karjuan Williams a senior transfer to New Bern from New Orleans won the 800m run in 1:59.59 at the LSU Classic in Louisianan on January 7th. Williams was USATF Junior 800 meter champion last year, Karjuan ran 1:50.14 at the Nike Outdoor Nationals in June 2005.

So who's who in the 55-meter boys' race in NC?

New Bern's junior Kelvin Hardesty and Asheville TC Roberson's senior David Pickett are the only two who have recorded offical fully automated legal timing in the 55-meter dash. Hardesty 6.59 at the LSU Classic, Pickett 6.85 at the Tennessee All-Comers. RJ Reynolds junior Chris Robinson and senior Archie Barrow also record times at the VMI back in early December. The rest of the state have record handheld times at "Polar Bear" meets, indoor distances run on outdoor track. Over a dozen handheld times have been turn in to the indoor track state honor roll.

Fant, Pickett compete at Tennessee Opener

January 6 - Kris Fant a former AC Reynolds and UNC Asheville product, competed unattached in the 55-meter hurdlers, finishing 2nd with a time of 7.79. In the 55-meter dash, TC Roberson senior David Pickett, also running unattached, raced to 17th finish in 6.85. Results

Early Indoor Highlights

Cross Country is out, now for some track & field. Indoor is here!!!! At the Liberty Christmas Invitational Dec 16-17, Polk County's Michael O'Steen vaulted 13 feet even for the win. Polk County was the only local team at this meet. Polk County also apear in the Walt Cormack Relays on Dec 10th at VMI. Fresh off XC, Elisabeth Elliott 5:46.97 in the Mile.
